Weaving Waves
“Weaving Waves” is a body based response to the changes happening in Toronto’s theater community with the rise of a shifted focus towards BIPOC perspectives and storytelling. We - the artists: Samay and Sophia, delved into our histories of migration and cultural heritage realizing that our identity is an amalgamation of unique memories and core values which are rooted in our own definition of home, which inevitably flows into the spaces we enter. Although these spaces are not always built for us, we are choosing to thrive in them, rather than conform. No matter how many forces attempt to diminish our spirits, they’ll never take away the greatest asset we bring - our own story.
We invite you to ask yourself: What does your body bring into spaces you inhabit or enter? Do your ancestors come with you? How does that space require you to conform? Do you make space for others or how do you break the box?
